Re: Avengers: Endgame

Definitely worth a watch, they have thought of some really good points which I didn't think of when watching the film

Avengers to come back with a re-release: https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/19/1...om-home-avatar

Post credits scene added. Might get enough traction to take the top box office spot.

Re: Avengers: Endgame

Talk about grasping at straws, i dont blame them though. When you are so close you'll do anything to make that last few $$$$. There are more than enough hardcore fans who will go and see it again to give it the $45m boost it needs. It is such a good film that I will go and see it again regardless of added scenes.

Re: Avengers: Endgame

I'll happily go and see the re-released avengers. Not sure how much that will help the figures though, as I have a Cineworld "Unlimited" card, so can go see films as often as I like. Not sure how much they pay for each viewer though.

Re: Avengers: Endgame

Yeah i have thought about that as well with my Limitless card at Odeon. Presumably the cinema still has to pay a fixed price per ticket/viewer to the movie distributor?

A cinema pays the distributor to rent the film, and then they pay a percentage of the face value for each ticket they sell to the distributor as well. So even if “limitless” members fill an auditorium the distributor has made something off the film being shown at that cinema. Contracts between distributors and cinema chains are very complicated things though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a clause specifying what the distributor gets paid when an Odeon Limitless member shows up.

When you attend the cinema presumably you still get a paper ticket to gain entry. Is there a face value on it?

funny you should say that because there was a big who ha for The Last Jedi when tickets went up for pre-booking. I think they went up about 7 weeks early and were obviously going to sell out very quickly for the midnight premiere. Normally when you book your tickets you go through to the summary screen for payment and there is a line for each ticket you have booked and the cost and there is an option you can select for "use limitless" which zeros off the cost for one ticket.

For the first 3 days the tickets were on sale for TLJ that option wasn't there. Odeon ended up sending all Limitless customers an email apologising saying it was a technical glitch and they had fixed it but when I spoke to one of the cinema staff about it shortly afterwards and he said it was Disney who refused to pay for it. Out of all the films I have been to see as a Limitless customer (which is tonnes) it was the first time I had the problem and I haven't had it since. The system must work for them though, I think it is coming up to its 3rd anniversary next month and they continue to advertise it to death every time you go to the cinema so they can't be losing money on it. Because my cinema is one of the most expensive in the country it works out for me that as soon as I go twice a month I am saving money. Limitless membership is £18/month and on average tickets are £12/£13. I go to the cinema pretty much every week based on my film list for the year (and I would do even if I didn't have Limitless) so I save a fortune.

Re: Avengers: Endgame

Thanks ... as the ticket doesn’t have a face value I suspect in their contracts with distributors they have a clause specifying what they pay the distributor for every Limitless member they allow in.

I’ll bet it isn’t the same as a full-paying customer, and they will have justified that based on the larger number of films you probably go to see (higher effective sales volume on a lower margin).

Re: Avengers: Endgame

It’s a nice bit of PR but in an economic system that has inflation built into it, the unadjusted figure can only have real meaning when compared with other films released around the same time. For comparison with historic releases only an inflation-adjusted figure actually means anything, and even that figure is of limited use as the way in which films are distributed and charged for is never going to stay quite the same over time.

Number of cinema seats filled over a defined period of time might be a more interesting way to measure how successful a film has been, as far as the audience is concerned (obviously economic success is the primary concern of the studio).

Still, Endgame, the Avengers series and the wider MCU franchise deserves a big for a genuinely superb, sustained, galactic-scale piece of storytelling.

Absolutely and that is the point. Not only did they have the genius idea, it was brilliantly implemented and the result has been a fantastic series of films telling great stories with amazing characters.
