They cancelled the install on me three times as well. And because they have so few at-height teams, getting another install date can be frustrating. However after the third time, I insisted on talking to someone senior at the Sky callcentre and he advised me to cancel my order, that I had placed directly with Sky, and instead order it through an independent, sky-approved installer. Independent installers are not obliged to follow Sky's policy on at-height installs. I found a local company and ordered Sky through them, and had the installer out and job done in under a fortnight.

Not that I'd recommend Sky to anyone though; we cancelled it after a couple of years and now just use the dish to get free satellite channels. We watched far too little of the subscription channels for it to be worthwhile. If you want digital TV and you're worried about Freeview reception, then have a look at Freesat. Again, to avoid fussy installers I'd steer clear of the main retailers and find a local, independent satellite installer. This website will tell you who the Freesat-approved installers are in your area:

Sounds like I got lucky.

I ordered sky, originally single guy came, took one look and told me it needs to go on chimney so heights team booked.
They arrive job done and no problem. I think was charged about £40.
Then I ordered sky+ some months later which requires 2nd feed so heights team ordered, when they arrived was power cut taking out entire street and was dark (late evening in december), they waited 20 minutes then went to another job. Fair play to them they came back at 10pm when power was back and finished it off.

Tiscalli? I'd rather chop of my left ear before I'd return to some of their "services...

I suggest you go lookup my thread regarding my Tiscali "experience"...

IPTV consumes lots of bandwidth and is still not a viable option until the ISPs in the UK remove their stupid limits - which won't happen any time soon.
When I say hassle, I meant having to look around for Sky dealers and people who will install equipment and maintain the box, Virgin Media do all this for you at no extra cost.

People always moaning about something, and the exaggerate!

Video on demand might go down for like 2 hours of they're lives and they will be like Virgin are crap ect.....

There is no such thing as a fault free service, but what i've experienced with Sky, they take no responsibility for maintainence or anything, wats the point in paying a subscription!

Its like paying BT line rental and when a fault occurs, its like BT saying 'Well look in the yellow pages and find your own specialist'.

Well dont worry, because i've heard rumours Virgin Media maybe expanding the network over time, there is a post on Cable forum saying 50,000 new homes a year!

im a sky engineer myself and i understand ur grievance. i also get a bit annoyed at having to explain health and safety to 7 or 8 customers on a daily basis, but we have to abide by the companys regulations. We are constantly randomly checked on the use of health and safety equipment by our managers and by an external company, if we're caught not using it we get disciplined then sacked if caught again. i do understand why people think h & s is over the top but at the end of the day im not going to risk my job and more importantly my life so somebody can watch t.v.

Re: Bloody "Sky" Engineers

Let me tell you something about Sky and there install, plus how to get local channels.

I have had Sky for approx 10 years, and touch wood never had a serious problem with them (not as much as VM, but that's another story).

Sky engineers will only fit the dish to the ladder at normal ladder height ie up to the first floor, normally takes about an hour, IF they have to put it higher , then it is a TWO MAN job due to health and safety etc.

IF there are any trees or chimneys in the signals way they will move it until they get a signal (happened with me) luckily, the dish was under the warranty or it would have cost money - so get any Sky gear on warranty, doesn't cost much (get it via Sky)

IF you want local channels ie you can tune it in yourself - ie l live in Middlesex but tuned in STV, BTV etc it is that easy, just get the 'signal' and you tune it in that simple.

What ever you do is if you want Sky, order it via Sky. I can praise Sky as l only had a few problems with them and it was sorted out in minutes - not days and weeks like VM.

I would go back to Sky tomorrow, if l could.
