Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I had a letter this week asking me to contact customer services because i haven't had my modem upgraded, and they will downgrage my service to 750K if I don't call them. However I have it was done in september and have the new Samsung Box. Is this normal? Anyone else got one and a Samsung bx?

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I would call customer services to ensure that they are aware you have a Samsung box and they do not downgrade you by mistake.

Edit: See BBKing's post below mine.

No, it's not normal. Can you PM me your MAC address or smart card address and I'll check for you on Monday?

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

Yeah already tried rebooting it a couple of times over the last week, including just now. Think I'll try calling them when they're not so swamped, thanks.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I phoned cable modem support and they said that even though the postcode checker said I was being upgraded in September I would see minor disruption in my connection as the backbone in this area is being tested to ensure it can cope first. Then a few days later my upgrade would arrive. Looks like I have up to 14 days extra to wait.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

Just been round my nextdoor neighbours house. His 512 or what ever it was has been upgraded to the 750k but yet my 1mb is still 1mb

Why?! I was 1.5 lol

(also the postcode checker says ive been upgraded... well, we all know how reliable that is)

are you using a cable modem? if so, PM me the mac address and i will sort this for you, if you are using a STB, the upgrade for 1.5mb has not happened yet.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

The postcode checker does say that 1Mb STB will be done later in the year - there may even be a date now.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

Getting it right first time is of paramount importance.

ntl learned the hard way not to rush into things before they are ready, and I applaud them for this. The last thing we'd want is them to mess it up and disrupt people's services.

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I'm getting increasingly miffed (is that a word ?) at NTL.

The proxies are rubbish, cause no end of trouble, if even large well known sites like Yahoo don't work properly, then what hope is there for the rest of the net ?

And now after being told on the phone my upgrade would happen on Sep 28, then told Oct 21 and now Nov 5th, pardon me if I don't believe them

I (and all other STB owners) are paying the same as modem owners for the last few months now and getting less, if the difference was only a few weeks then no worries, but this looks to be approaching a 6 month difference

Very poor service indeed, I'm not one of those that calls for compensation at the drop of a hat, but I feel that STB owners are being excessively penalised by bad management of what *should* have been a simple job, whilst paying the same amount as those that were lucky enough to have cable modems (I never asked for an STB, I was just given one), this surely could have all been managed better ?

This, and 2 price increases in a year for the tv leaves me probably going back to Sky and DSL next year when my year with NTL is up.

NTL are currently too dear and proxies are pathetic.

Just my thoughts..

Ian
