V6 boxes randomly switching on
Hello
Recently I have noticed both of our V6 boxes are waking up randomly and staying on (from red light to white light). Not a major issue but on our living room one it means the sounds starts playing if I have left the AV on.
Any ideas why this could be?

Re: V6 boxes randomly switching on
Do you power your broadband off when you aren't using it? It's possible that the V6 boxes are temporarily waking up to do some housekeeping, but aren't able to complete it because they have no broadband connection.
The other reason this can happen is if there is a stray infra-red noise in the room that the box thinks is someone pressing remote control buttons (but it would be unusual for this to happen in two rooms in the same house). If this is the cause, it is easily resolved. As long as the remote control is paired with the V6 box, the IR receiver on the front of the box isn't used at all, so you can block it up with a bit of black tape or cardboard, or even stick the V6 in a closed cupboard. The receiver is in the black shiny panel just to the left of the VM "infinity" logo.

Thanks Spiderplant
The internet connection is always up and for example last night the TBB graph is completely clean.
I'll try the IR fix but as you say they are in completely different rooms - one upstairs, one downstairs

Re: V6 boxes randomly switching on
My V6 decided to reboot last evening from standby. It ended with it in the on condition.

Re: V6 boxes randomly switching on
I don't really see the point of switching them off, can't cost that much for electricity, or do some people switch them off from a safety point of view?

I'd sooner have the HDD spin-down when it's not actively being used.
Otherwise 24/7/365 use certainly can't be helpking its lifetime.

Re: V6 boxes randomly switching on
My last Sony TV started coming on by itself just over a year ago. It turned out to be the batteries, which needed changing.
Once I did that, the problem stopped.

Actually that isn't clear cut. There is some evidence that hard drives are more reliable if they are used than not. I used to work on some systems that read the hard drives continuously when idle.
The heating/cooling cycles each time you turn them on and off definitely does them no good.
