just for anyone wondering you can actually access the tivos web server via you PC it gives you a direct listing of all your recordings and and exact sizes

open https://<your_tivo_ip>/ in your web browser and use 'tivo' as the login and your Media Access Key as the password. The media access key can be found on the system information screen of your TiVo

i no longer have TV and just broadband now but this did still work up till last year at least, real branded tivos have a few extra things you can do on this page such download the programs and so on but VMs is locked to literally just seeing a list of programs / space
