Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

Anyone else noticed that Sky Atlantic appear to be promoting the channel as 'Only on Sky' a lot now during ad breaks on the channel , I've never really noticed it before.

Rather contradictory given that they said they want to wholesale the channel to other providers but alas it seems its more of the talk the talk rather then of walk the walk.

Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

Do you not think there all trying to add value to there packages now Den ?

Sky using Sky Atlantic as a selling point

VM using extra HD channels as a selling point for XL TV

BT using BT Sport as a selling point for its BT Vision packages.

Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

None of them. I just want all TV shows to be wrapped up in one great season rather than dragging out the story to death.

I would be very happy if a TV show lasted one season of 25 to 30 great episodes ahead of 60 to 80 episodes spread over 6 years.

Lost went on about 3 seasons too long and Fringe could have been wrapped up about 2 years earlier. The Walking Dead could have got to it's current position in the storyline minus about 15 episodes.

We are being mugged off! I remember reading recently that most commissioned TV shows don't actually have a pre-determined storyline or pre-determined end planned. Most shows are just made up as they go along. I suspect shows like Revolution and Park Avenue 666 fall into this category.

So why say that they are going to wholesale to other providers then if they don't mean it?.

Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

I think now more than ever SKY and Virgin are very similar in terms of the TV content they offer.

Both Virgin and SKY offer very similar catch-up services. Both offer very similar on demand services. Both offer similar TV on the go services. Both offer apps allowing remote record. Both offer boxes with hugh storage capability. Both offer a wide array of HD channels with Virgin closing the gap quickly. ESPN is due to drop out of the XL package which levels out both companies top packages.

TiVo is a great PVR however the amount of Virgin customers with TiVo is still very much in the minority. V+HD is not a million miles away from the SKY+HD box. What I'm getting at is if SKY let Virgin have SKY Atlantic, SKY Atlantic HD, SKY Sports 3 HD, SKY Sports 4HD, SKY News HD and SKY Sports News HD SKY are left will very little unique selling points at all. Why would you get a dish on your house and be forced to take broadband to watch catch-up and on demand content when Virgin would offer almost the exact same service via cable minus an internet connection? Virgin have even added lots of niche channels recently which has helped closed the gap on popular missing channels.

It's for the above reasons that I simply can't see SKY ever allowing Virgin access to the missing SKY channels. It would do more damage than good to SKY's business model.

If you look at thinks completely impartially you must recognise that SKY need to keep these channels.

Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

VM has some excellent products however content rights always prevent people from getting the most out of them , examples include MRS and TV Anywhere with their poor range of channels , it's like having a Ferrari but only being able to use it in certain gears when driving.

Re: Which Sky Atlantic Show

Not long to go now until season 3 of game of thrones starts, if you have sky that is!

Looking forward to this more than any other series. Glad we don't have to wait until it comes out on DVD or blu-ray.
