Routers

Hello All, I am connected to the Internet via Virgin Media Cable.(Broadband). I have bought a Dell laptop and want to connect it to the Web. It is fitted with a wireless switch, but I assume I need a router. There seem to be so many types etc and I am sure I will get the wrong one without some advice!!. Thanks in advance Bill (Manser)

Re: Routers

You will need a cable/dsl router not a adsl modem router thats the first thing to be sure about (as long as you are sure it is cable broadband ) linksys now owned by cisco have always served me well enough

there are plenty of cheaper routers available. Does your laptop have a G or N wireless adapter?

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131028 This Buffalo N class router seems very well priced will work with G also

Thanks for such a quick reply!. All I can find in the way of network adapters in the laptop "system" are ; Broadcom NetLink(TM) Gigabit Ethernet, and Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card. Is this what you are asking me ?

it is a wireless b/g adapter but a wireless N router will work with b/g anyway. I think that Buffalo router is a steal
