Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I think the meaning is that Netflix is the best streaming service for scripted content and DAZN is the best streamer for sport.

I wouldn’t read any more into it than that.

I didnít write it, so donít complain to me.

DAZN has been mooted more than once to be a likely contender to bid for rights to the Premier League.

Whether they will be successful is another matter.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I notice that in Italy and Germany DAZN seem to carry Eurosport 1 and 2 and NFL Network with one of the countries also carrying MLB network.

The UK DAZN seems to have very little though.

I didn't write it would have been a worthy reply first time round, not second.

We've been here before with the EPL talking up mythical bids that never come to fruition so forgive me if I take this one with a huge pinch of salt. Straight out the Richard Scudamore playbook in a move that cost him his job last time out when Sky/BT saw through it

DAZN, the so-called Netflix of sports, is said to be considering throwing its hat into the ring for the next round of Premier League broadcast rights.

The rights for the 2022-2025 seasons are expected to be allocated before May.

According to the Telegraph, the sports streamer is preparing to take on the likes of Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime Video to secure rights to some matches.

Itís thought the next round of rights in likely to cost significantly less due to a channel sharing deal between Sky and BT. Because of that, the value of the rights is expected to drop by up to £920 million.

Bidding is expected to end this week.

DAZN already owns exclusive Premier League rights in Spain, Canada and Japan, but has yet to break into the UK football market.

Seems like the premier league rights come up every year....the years must be flying by. I'd rather everything just stayed as it is but would love UCL and europa league to return to sky sports. Michael Owen....ugh! Superior coverage too!

A pet hate of mine on the Football channels, is with having the V6 box with multiple channel tuners i want to watch one match whilst recording others i.e. last night watch Barca v Psg,record Leipzig v Liverpool to watch right after without knowing the score of the recorded match, but yet again they put the Liverpool score up on screen to spoil it for me.Surely they must realise if people want to know the scores of other games they will just look them up on their phone.Grrrrr.

I quite agree, watching Barcelona v PSG recording this morning this happened - even my wife who wasn't really watching shouted out Spoiler Alert.

Why do they think we need to know? I always watch one game then avoid the result of the other but continually getting score updates spoils it for me.

The put different sound tracks on the extra channels - why can't they do the same with versions which will have score updates leaving the main channels free of this curse?

They could put the results in a separate results only subtitle stream. Then you could chose to show or not show.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Super Rugby restarts in Oz this week, and NZ the week after. Currently, there's no UK broadcaster. A few odd articles dotted around, to the effect of "negotiations ongoing", but they're pushing it mighty fine.

Sky used to hold all these rights, but the deal lapsed last year. There's been no UK coverage of the Top-14 for several years, but this still seems quite a surprise.

Sky seem to be dropping rugby union following their exit from Autumn Internationals, now Super Rugby (hadn't realised it was time for a re-start).

Sky sports is becoming an expensive luxury - only have Premier League football and Super League (rugby league) that I want to watch.

Might ditch it and just keep BT Sports, possibly with SS Prem League channel.

Last minute negotiations seem to be the in thing with the more minor sports - as per India v England cricket tour.

You can't take individual SS channels with VM - it's the whole package or nothing at all.

I can't fathom out Sky here to be fair... they've shown interest in the next bundling of Six Nations/autumn internationals, and the Sanzar contract fits nicely with that.

The value has undoubtedly fallen, and I dare say Sanzar are partly to blame in over-valuing the rights. I'm slightly surprised BT haven't shown an interest in the Kiwi rounds.

And the paying fan/subscriber loses out, while they all play hardball.

I know you can't just have Sky Premier League through VM - but you can through sky.

I am sure you are correct re over-valuing, although they should be able to get access to previous year's viewing stats.

It's possible dropping to rights hasn't affected the Southern Hemisphere as much, particularly as crowds are back down the Rest?

As you say it's the consumer that suffers - first games of Australian comp start tomorrow morning, although I prefer the NZ games which start next week.

It would be good to get some news asap - although I realise it is less important to UK viewers than the India/England cricket which went to the wire.
