Do agents listen at all ?
Had call about my account , long talk , only have hard wired pc and a tablet, watch a few channels , not sports or films , have two year contract for mobile.
So offered 1 gig BB new hub 4 ? , Horizon with new remote , 100 extra channels , bt sport , and volt SIM card for O2 ! meaning a price rise to £69 . BB, have bog standard pc so even if it worked I have no use for it ! Only ever watch about 10 channels so why would want more ? And WiFi booster have no problems anywhere in house and said so . No use for volt even if it worked out cheaper per month ( when the price rises n the next month or so it will be more RPI +3.9%) ,get priority from using Tesco(O2) in 18 months have never used it. More likely to cancel than " upgrade"

Re: Do agent listen at all ?
Once you get through to proper retentions you can tell them exactly what you want but in my experience the only way to talk to them is to put your notice in

They phoned me regularly, even a month after I had renewed. Most ridiculous call ever, I explained the situation, but still went into full sales mode, after 30 mins I refused everything.

Re: Do agents listen at all ?
But if the new price is fixed and close to or beats your current price plus any price rises over the fixed period it may become a bit more attractive.

Re: Do agents listen at all ?
I think everyone is reading too much into the interaction itself and not enough about the purpose.
They want to drive up revenue and get more customers into contracts. They (Virgin, not the agent) will have done research into the types of package (e.g. all 4 services, gig1) that have lower churn in the long run. If they nudge you onto those packages now and your consumption changes as a result they’re in a better position to drive up prices.
The most pointless thing they could do is sell you exactly what you have now at lower cost. Although when push comes to shove you could potentially get that from retentions.

Re: Do agents listen at all ?
Seen it many times..... They are mostly sales reps and sadly the majority don't know a thing about the technical side. Luckily a few do.
I phoned up a similar ISP wanting to renew my contract and get told I can have this new router that guarentees broadband all round the house, with this and that, fancy bells and whistles etc.
Keep telling them I have my own router that is ten times better, a house that is fully networked and kitted out with access points, etc.... No clue.
Not interested in TV but still get ignored and try to be sold a TV package.
Then get recommended a packagae that is half the speed of what I'm already getting.
Told them to leave it and phoned again a few days later. Got through to someone who knew what I was on about, sorted it there and then.
It's pot luck who you get but when someone does finally listen to you then it makes things a lot easier.
