Networking advice

Hi all, I currently have a hub3 downstairs and want to get a wired connection upstairs to something that will give me wireless upstairs and maybe even have ports for wired devices aswell.

So my question is could you suggest the device for upstairs that will have these options and what kind of cable ie pass through or crossover cat 5 , 5e, or 6.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Networking advice

I would put the SH3 upstairs for a better Wi-Fi signal.

With regards to cable go for cat6 or cat7.

I have my SH3 upstairs and I has a cable running into my room where I have a 7 port hub for my kit.

Re: Networking advice

Hi thanks for answering. The SH3 unfortunately has to stay where it is. So I want to tun a cable from the SH3 upstairs and to something that I can connect to both wirelessly and wired upstairs.

So Cat 6 cable ...but what unit upstairs and when thats decided what kind of wiring for the cat6 (crossover or straight through)? Any ideas guys and gals?

Use straight.

Crossover IIRC is really for PC to PC conection.

So assuming you have 3 bedrooms upstairs you can run a Cat6 cable upstairs to a 4/5 port hub (this will need a power supply).

from that run a cable to each room, which in turn has a hub.

With regards to cables you can get flat one, but these are more expensive.
