Re: Season 22-23

Well I'll be watching it, hoping (but not expecting) England to do well.

World Cup 2022: Alcohol sales banned at World Cup stadiums in Qatar

Alcohol will not be sold to fans at the World Cup's eight stadiums in Qatar after Fifa changed its policy two days before the start of the tournament.

Alcohol was set to be served "in select areas within stadiums", despite its sale being strictly controlled in the Muslim country.

Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol.

The World Cup starts on Sunday when Qatar play Ecuador.

Budweiser, a major sponsor of Fifa, is owned by beer maker AB InBev and had exclusive rights to sell beer at the World Cup.

"Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar's Fifa World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters," said a statement from world football's governing body.
So fans pay a fortune to get there, a fortune to stay in very over-priced accommodation, another fortune for tickets, and can't have a beer - sounds fun...

Personally I have no sympathy with any of them (fans) as it serves them right for pouring money into this ignorant country

Seems an enormous expense , to get sunburnt, bored, disappointed and worst of all sober. If they haven't got drink, guess they could kick off a bit of trouble to pass the time.... They love a bit of that.

Re: Season 22-23

A good 6 - 2 win for England, even though Iran's penalty should never have been given.

Re: Season 22-23

The foul on Maguire in the first half was far more of a penalty then the dreadful VAR decision which gave Iran their penalty.

Agree 100%. The 2 bad decisions on this occasion didn't matter but if it had been 0-0 when first England didn't get the decision with the foul on Maguire then VAR awarding Iran a very dubious one then we'd be much more vexed, wouldn't we?

Can't believe the amount of extra time being played in every game?
It's like Fergie time on steroids.

Good to watch the matches and see some of our players in action, though it was comforting to know Neco is as bad for wales

Yeah apparently officials have been instructed to crack down on time wasting

Didn’t see much time wasting in the second half of the England game, a brief stoppage for Maguire and all the subs couldn’t possibly have amounted to 10 minutes?

14 minutes for the England match and 9 for the Wales match.

Where did the 9 minutes stoppage time come from in the Wales match.

Re: Season 22-23

Incorrect Den, 14 minutes in 1st half of England game for keeper concussion, plus another 10 in 2nd half. There was 24 minutes extra time in total.

---------- Post added at 09:11 ---------- Previous post was at 09:01 ----------

According to Opta, the four single halves with the most stoppage time in a single World Cup match since records began in 1966 were all on Monday:

England v Iran first half (14:08 minutes)
England v Iran second half (13:08)
USA v Wales second half (10:34)
Senegal v Netherlands second half (10:03)
Unsurprisingly, all that added time led to some VERY late goals.

Mehdi Taremi's penalty for Iran against England came with 102:30 on the clock, the latest World Cup goal on record excluding extra time.

That was swiftly followed by the second latest, with Davy Klaassen's strike for the Netherlands coming after 98 minutes and 17 seconds

---------- Post added at 10:22 ---------- Previous post was at 09:11 ----------

Another slightly irksome innovation is the on screen graphics. I’m guessing they were written by the Yanks. I didn’t actually see any attempts on/off target but may have missed that. What I did see was an unusual Possession graphic and also a Total Receptions and Defensive Line Breaks graphics. Pointless stats from someone who has only watched NFL before.

Sorry my fault as l was talking about the first half.

Could we have the first big shock of the World cup coming.
