Regular latency/lost packet spikes, weird downstream power levels

Hiya,

Seem to have a few concerning things going on with my connection at the moment, here are my downstream power levels:

And my pre and post RS errors:

Meanwhile my last few days of BQM have looked like this:

My questions I guess are
a) What's the best way to contact virgin to let them know about this? and
b) What should I be telling them?

Jim

Post to the VM forum as well as contacting them on 150 (if you have a VM phoneline).

Re: Regular latency/lost packet spikes, weird downstream power levels

Your downstream power levels are much too high and this is causing a large number of post RS errors. These are errors that cannot be corrected by the RS (Reed Solomon) encoding so the packets have to be re-requested.

DS power should be within +/-6dbmv.

You'll need a tech to take a look at the installation.

Small amounts of excess level can be taken out by an FP attenuator but yours is way out and needs looking into.

Re: Regular latency/lost packet spikes, weird downstream power levels

Ah I didn't know the VM forum existed, looks like a good way to bring stuff like this to their attention without having to navigate phone support, thanks!

I actually had an engineer out just a few weeks ago, I was getting intermittent connection drops and they allocated someone who in the end came and redid all my wiring (which apparently was really old). That hasn't helped though, and it's only since then that I've started researching how to diagnose this kinds of issue, so I don't know what my power levels or BQM results would have been like before the visit.

I would ringing 150 first because you'll be able to get someone out faster than waiting for a response on the community forum. Those downstream power levels are ridiculously high and are the cause of all your problems.
