Re: Linksys WRT54G

i have got exactly the same router and I never have any problems getting my full 20mbit and I have changed any settings except for putting entries in the port forwarding table and restricting MAC address access as a security feature

Re: Linksys WRT54G

There are many different versions of the Linksys WRT54G. It depends on which one you have, and the issue causing the lag as to what you might do. For the majority of users standard settings will suffice.

Under what circumstances are you experiencing "lag". Is this wired or wireless, and if wireless does a wired connection have the same effect. If the router is not used, i.e. a direct ethernet connection between PC and modem, do you still see the same? What software is being run on which you see the lag, and is this on one or more computers?

Re: Linksys WRT54G

Aha, torrents

Some of the Linksys firmware didn't do very well with torrents, even though the router is very capable. Torrents open a large number of connections and these can overload the router's memory. If you have current firmware |(if not upgrade), look at limiting your torrent connection numbers. If that doesn't solve it I'd suggest third party firmware such as DD-WRT, combined with a for the appropriate settings for connections and retention times of the open connections.

Re: Linksys WRT54G

The DNS should come automatically from your ISP, and MTU should be at 1500 standard, which is usually good. Just ensure that you have security enabled on your wireless (I'd advise WPA2 Personal and you routers login username/password is changed)

Just remember, if you are uploading while using torrents, your Internet will go terribly slow.
