Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

There's also another ruling to come on the Sky Sports front which should be known soon - whether BT can offer Sky Sports on YouView. I would it expect this to be allowed. If it goes ahead, it should help make the pay-TV sports market more competitive and will be one thing which acts as a deterrent to future price rises on all platforms.
(Currently, BT is only allowed to sell Sky Sports on BT Vision)

BT Sport must stop persisting with disastrous and unpopular on-field presenting.

They most certainly do. Before a recent BT Sports match, James Beattie was demonstrating a move down the pitch with the presenter shouting after him "mind your hamstring". Comical.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

If I may offer another perspective. My own club having just recently been promoted to the Premier League had to spend a fair amount of money installing various things for the benefit of the broadcasters. One of these things was a studio for live match day broadcasting. Now, it's a tight little ground and, unfortunately, the only place this could be sited was the disabled fans concourse. Our disabled fans were moved, but where they are now is less good and they are quite fairly unhappy about the situation.

Palace have been live on tv a fair few times this season, and are on again this coming Saturday. The studio hasn't been used once.

If the Premier League are going to insist that clubs, at their own expense and to the detriment of sections of their fans, have to install facilities for broadcasters, why on earth are the broadcasters being allowed to ignore them in favour of gimmicks like BT's pitch side presentation or Sky's live studio audience show?

Because they asked for the dosh? If you cancelled the tv deal, problem solved. Though of course lots of clubs would go to the wall.

Other solution, allow clubs to negotiate their own club's tv deal. Would suit some, rest can whistle.

There you go, two suggestions

The point was more that, in reply to Den's post, I can't really understand why Sky and BT are presenting their programming in the way that they are when the clubs are contractually obliged to provide an alternative, presumably at the request of those very broadcasters who are ignoring it.

Why are they ignoring it was my question, not why are the clubs being made to do it.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Right, obviously I'm betting too subtle. The broadcasters can do what they like because they are more important than the clubs or the supporters. This is because, as you rightly say, they've paid the dosh. That's my reply to Denphone and the point I was trying to illustrate with my example and the rhetorical questions it contained.

And I agree.

My view, is if you don't want the money, don't go for it.

Similar to the whinging about owners, there is an easy solution, don't allow them to take over clubs. But equally, be prepared to struggle when funds get tight, or have clubs close.

My view, let the clubs close. There is too much spending without any thought in football. I like the idea of only being able to spend what you can show is in the bank, and it is ring-fenced. The victims of the over spending isn't the football clubs that close, but the businesses that expect payment, but can't because a club over spent and caused an issue.
