Third Party Wireless Router Config

Hi,

I am setting up my parents with a wireless network router that they have been given. They are ex NTL customers, using an NTL 250 modem. The router is a linksys WRT54GS, and WinXP operating system. My understanding is that the router is connected between the modem and the PC.

I can connect the router and detect the wireless activity, but in order to complete the connection I need the following information for the Web Based Config Form:

Host Name / Domain Name (if necessary - apparently cable ISPs require this);
Connection type (DHCP/Static/PPPoE - according to the Virgin Help pages all connections are dynamic)

I have tried DCHP and PPPoE with blank Host / Domain fields but cannot connect.

Obviously I have their correct username and password.

I'd be grateful if someone could offer some wisdom on this - I can't find that information on Virgin Help, and as I'm not 'the customer' I can't email them.

Many thanks

Ronnie.

Set everything to auto detect/dynamic. Its DHCP. Account name you make up yourself.

Do not need to use a username or password, host name: leave this blank, connection type is DHCP.

Set all that up, then power off modem & router, wait a few minutes, then fire up the modem and wait until the sync & ready lights stabalise, then flick on the router, wait for them lights to stabalise, then try connecting again!

If that does not work, switch modem & router off, disconnect the router from the modem, and run the setup CD, and this will set it all up.

Works like a dream now folks!

Very many thanks for your assistance. I didn't even have to resort to the setup disc.

Best Regards

Ronnie.
