Re: Season 2019/2020 Football
Fundamentally football at the bottom without fans isn't viable. The meagre amounts of TV money beyond the Championship won't cover the costs (wages, stadium maintenance).
If we don't have the infrastructure to deal with the virus (mass testing, contact tracing) then fundamentally these things will never return until there is a vaccine. By then it will likely be too late.
Beyond football other sports - rugby and boxing - face the same crisis.

Celtic have been confirmed as Scottish Premiership champions for the ninth season in a row - and Hearts relegated - after the SPFL ended the season.

The decision was taken at a board meeting on Monday after the 12 clubs agreed at the end of last week that completing the campaign was unfeasible.
Average points per game played has been used to determine final placings.

The Premier League stated last week if they cannot complete the full season this would be the type of method they would most probably use.

Re: Season 2019/2020 Football
Just can't see the EPL finishing in the normal fashion this season. Think too many players will either not want to play or will be infected and unable to play. Liverpool are a mile ahead so pointless for them and the vast majority of the team's below. Don't think it's worth the risk. I miss football hugely but don't think it's right just now. Obviously there will be issues at the bottom if the season is called down there but it unavoidable I think.

Awaiting confirmation from the club and buyers, presumably after the funds have been transferred.

Would rather wait for the club announcement.
Poch to Newcastle looks increasingly likely.

Re: Season 2019/2020 Football
Newcastle takeover in serious doubt as WTO rules pirate TV channel is Saudi.
https://www.theguardian.com/football...annel-is-saudi
Quote:
The controversial £300m Saudi Arabia-funded takeover of Newcastle United appears to be in serious doubt after the World Trade Organization ruled that the country is behind a pirate satellite TV and streaming service that offers illegal access to sporting events, the Guardian can reveal.
|
Quote:
The development will raise fundamental questions about whether Newcastle’s mooted takeover – which would lead to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund taking an 80% stake in the club, with PCP Capital Partners and the property developers David and Simon Reuben taking 10% each – will pass the Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test. That test can be failed if a crime is committed overseas that would also be one in the UK. It is also made clear to prospective owners that false, misleading or inaccurate information cannot be submitted to the Premier League.

Re: Season 2019/2020 Football
*Premier League’s owners’ and directors’ test*
Is that the same as the 'fit and proper person' test, the one that's allowed many charlatans, spivs and thieves to take control of a club and run it into the ground?
*It is also made clear to prospective owners that false, misleading or inaccurate information cannot be submitted to the Premier League.*

Guess those that have a remote control/Premiership team won't be bothered as nothing will change for them
