I use paypal where possible as raising any issues can easily be started online whereas invoking Section 75 is not as easy and it has to be over £100. Amazon also are pretty easy to deal with also

Re: Amazon and Visa credit cards

I think the only time I managed to get a Visa credit card as opposed to a Visa Debit or a Mastercard, the operator swapped it for a Mastercard a few years later.

If your credit rating's fine, it's not too much of a big deal to get a Mastercard instead, either from a new provider or from your existing one, so might be worth contacting them if you're affected...

Or indeed, Amazon offer their own MC

Re: Amazon and Visa credit cards

I had a Goldfish Mastercard Credit Card, that became a Barclays Mastercard Credit Card, then switched to Visa.

I use this predominantly for Amazon, I'll guess I just switch to my Debit Card, then get a Mastercard CC from my bank

American Express - by far the best rewards and accepted in far more places than some time ago. This includes all supermarkets.

I don't have credit cards as it is to easy to spend what you dont have. Debit cards only in my house so not an issue for me thankfully.

Think of it as a Brexit bonus!

It is understood Amazon is particularly angry at a rise in so-called interchange fees - additional cross-border costs - which it believes have risen five-fold since Brexit

Perhaps Visa think that someone who avoids (fiddles) their tax affairs to the extent that Amazon do can afford the tiny increases.

I suspect some sort of ‘agreement’ may be arrived at before Jan 19th.

The EU introduced regulation in 2015 that capped interchange fees in the bloc at 0.2% for debit card transactions and 0.3% for credit cards. The EU said at the time that the move would save consumers an estimated €6 billion in “hidden fees”.

Britain’s exit from the EU means operators were no longer bound by these rules. The Financial Times reported earlier this year that Visa planned to increase its cross border interchange fees from 0.3% to 1.5%.

With the UK exiting the EU, retailers are seeing that transactions between the EEA and the UK are no longer capped at the intra-regional rate, instead classed as inter-regional transactions. This has allowed major card brands to raise interchange fees on some online or “card not present” transactions by up to 475%. Furthermore, some card brands have increased their ‘interchange fee’ on all cross-border transactions between the UK and EEA.

Example changes to Interchange Fees from major Card Schemes
………………Previous……….Now……….Change
Credit Card….0.3%………1.5%……..+400%
Debit Card…..0.2%………1.15%……+475%

Re: Amazon and Visa credit cards

And yet both Amazon and Visa have said Brexit isn’t the issue, and nothing you have posted here shows that it is.

Perhaps the following two paragraphs of the BBC article will clarify:

Quote:
Both Visa and its rival Mastercard have raised the so-called interchange fee on cross-border transactions between businesses in the UK and the European Union following Brexit.
The dispute between Amazon and Visa is to do with the fees the credit card company charges Amazon for its services in the UK.
So, again, I’m not blaming Brexit because both parties in the dispute say they aren’t doing so; because the dispute is over domestic transaction charges within the UK and nothing to do with cross-border interchange fees; and because Mastercard is not involved in the dispute. Both have raised interchange rates yet only Visa is in view here (again, because the stated dispute is over domestic charges).

Though I suspect those with an ideological need to blame Brexit for everything will likely continue to do so regardless of the evidence.
