If that was their policy they would be advancing at the speed of the slowest. As long as the facility is made available to all platforms on request, I don't see that as a problem.

Typical of BBCs lack of interest in sports (with exception of Wimbledon)

That's a bit harsh, Raider. This is not easy and they have been working on it for some years with the objective of getting it right first time. I think we should just be grateful that UHD is finally available and look forward to having many more programmes in UHD in the near future.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
OB, not harsh at all - I appreciate you don't care about sport, but a lot of people do.
If the number able to watch in UHD is severely limited as suggested there are definitely going to be a lot of angry people.

Any idea what's going on with the French open in 4k ? Red button just loads the Eurosport app ?

My software version is RC4-VMB-11-C68
I guess that means no update for me yet?

How many games are ITV providing in UHD? The BBC are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Even if 4k is available on BBC it is going to be restricted to first come first serve basis, I believe the tens of thousands.

Think I might reserve a slot even though I haven't got a UHD TV. It's the principle , we all pay the same licence fee !

Yes, but if UHD was not now being shown, we wouldn't be having this debate. This is only a trial at the moment, and we have had no UHD dramas yet.
I certainly don't begrudge sports fans getting this first, though.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Can anyone explain why I get the HLG demo through the V6 iplayer. But not through the iplayer built into the tv itself, it doesn't show up. Right now I can't think why, as everything is obviously up to spec.
It doesn't matter all that much I'll obviously use the V6, just wondering though.

It depends what tv you have. Are you sure it is HLG compatible?
For me it is the other way round as I don't have the latest v6 software update yet.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media
Thought I would just post my experience with the world cup trial on I player.
If you have a Samsung tv 2017 onwards then select uhd colour in Samsung external device settings to on.
The v6 then should play the football test loop in iPlayer beta.
Hope this helps someone as mine was set to off!
