Sky Glass on its way TVs start from £13 a month and a Sky sub starts from £39 a month with a 31 day contract

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Some have interpreted the £5 a month for 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos as the end of paying extra for HD with Sky. Though it could just be with regards to Sky Glass.

I like the idea, but what I don’t like is being locked into one TV content provider. Sky Puck seems like a rip off!

Disappointed in your lack of enthusiasm OB this is what you’ve been crying out for. All the apps in one place, on one box (that happens to be the TV).

It also has an aerial socket and can work with any ISP. But we don't know if it can work as a normal smart TV with Freeview if there's no Sky subscription in place.

Maybe the Puck pricing will come down in the future, this could be early adopter pricing.

That side of it is fine. What I don’t like is paying all that money only to be locked into one provider.

I’ll wait for the competition to offer a better deal, thanks very much.

Yes it can, if I understand the blurb correctly.

You aren’t locked into one provider though - it appears the Sky subscription is on a 31 day contract but there’s no indication you need it to access the other apps or services.

Long live Sky the super content aggregator. Streaming (and linear channels of course!) in a living room near you very soon.

I read that it has a backup mode that uses a DVB-T2 tuner, the RXTVlog article has specs that says as much, but the person (not RXTVlog) got the impression it was being disabled for the UK market.

I'll see if I can find that source again, maybe I misunderstood.

Various articles have said you can only use it with one Pay TV supplier, but I don't see how they can stop you if it has HDMI sockets, they can't exactly monitor the HDMIs and blank the screen only when a rival's device is being used, they could only disable them completely, but why have them if they did that?

They've got them there primarily for gamers, I assume. I doubt they would go to the bother of disabling the HDMI inputs though.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Eurosport being withdrawn from BT TV as of January 2022 according to these posts:

https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Sport...t/td-p/2186349

Wonder if we'll see Eurosport drop off SKY and Virgin Media around the same time?

Interestingly 17th January 2022, the date the channels allegedly will be removed from BT, is the same date Eurosport starts their coverage of the African Cup of Nations. "Watch live and exclusive only on Discovery +" springs to mind.

What I mean by ‘locked in’ is that without a Sky subscription, you only get the Freeview channels. The TV allows you only to pick up the Sky fare.

At least, that’s what we’ve been led to believe. Interesting that it has HDMI ports, though, so I guess there must be other options available.
