Doing a 'David Tennant' - using an English accent instead of Scottish, I much preferred Tennant's Anglicised tone. Not suggesting Capaldi's performance or the series will be any worse for him using his native accent, just saying what I think I'd have preferred.

All these 'leaks' recently....surely I'm not the only one to be cynical enough to notice the subsequent publicity the show has received as a result...?

Quite possibly.
There was a copy with the top and bottom cropped so the watermarks were not showing. Quick flick through suggests the only stand out bad thing is it's black & white + cropped but could be wrong. Not something I would watch either though.

Dr Who is one of the few that most definitely does not need to pull publicity stunts like this.
The new Marvel Flash series leak was almost perfect to watch except the actual show looks naff. That could probably have benefited form the leak publicity though....

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Nobody is saying leaks are needed. But they don't hurt.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
They do hurt - there are a lot of Who forums all over the net, and there are plenty of brain donors who wouldn't think twice about putting a spoiler in a thread title where anyone could see it. It happens, regularly, despite forum rules and lots of people have their enjoyment spoiled before moderators can act to remove them.
Steven Moffat has spoken out against people who leak such stuff online and there's no way he would be party to a policy of publicity via leaks.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Generally content makers will say that unfinished/workprint leaks do hurt as the product isn't polished up and thus the audience will have a lower opinion of the work and give worse reviews which in the end is bad news.
There have been games which have leaked early and got bad reviews and negative publicity based on bugs which were not in the final version, so it's not just video this relates to.

I don't think they hurt that much - all publicity is good publicity and all that.

Well we are, just not under the "Ratner" brand. But that's beside the point.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Not really - the publicity destroyed his brand and it took years for him to rebuild his business. Which pretty much proves that "no publicity is bad publicity" is nonsense.
As qtx said, premature, unfavourable reviews of incomplete products can and do dent those products performance when they are eventually released to market. A few critical reviews of this incomplete Who material could affect viewing figures.

Not really, it depends in which industry. Anything that gets people talking about a media broadcast is generally going to be a good thing.
