Latest YouGov poll of over 3000 voters have it NO 54% YES 46%. YouGov are 99% confident No will be clear winners tonight.

A YouGov on-the-day poll (not quite an exit poll, but the next best thing) gives No an 8-point lead. SNP and Greens are both on BBC Scotland's coverage claiming a "victory for democracy" and hailing the "unprecedented engagement" - they sound very much like they're laying the foundations for accepting defeat and then trying to claim credit for a political awakening which, I assume, they would like to claim the right to direct and channel. Danny Alexander, meanwhile, is trying to sound measured and cautious but is clearly having a hard time not sounding confident of victory.

As things stand, the two most recent polls show the gap has widened again in the last 48 hours, and all involved are expecting the actual results to reflect that.

Westminster quietly confident according to SKY News. If they are so quietly confident, how do SKY know?

Of course it's just an opinion poll, not an exit poll, and opinion polls have been wrong before. The margin of error on their polls are usually 3%. If they've got this wrong they've lost all credibility. They do however appear very confident.

Whatever the result there is work to be done to heal the split. I would say however I've never, ever seen so many people interested in politics amongst my family, friends and neighbours. Scotland where given a choice and EVERYONE participated. A political awakening.

Well. Let's see what state George Square's in by tomorrow lunchtime, eh. I don't wish for trouble, but if the result is No, as looks most likely right now, there are some people who have been told so assuredly, for so long, that Yes was on the march, they are going to have a very hard time accepting it.

Missus has friends on her Facebook feed right now, swapping rumours of a poll that gives Yes 63% and asking if a No win is therefore sufficient evidence in itself of ballot rigging. Others have been telling each other not to trust the pencils all day, and have been taking their own pens to the ballot stations, despite warnings that ink impressions folded onto the wrong part of the paper actually increases the chances of their ballot being spoiled.

In all honesty, some of the talk sounds like what you would expect from people who have just been rescued from a religious cult. And they are going to take a while to de-programme.

Symptomatic of any highly politicised vote involving nationality, really.

I wonder how much support Murray will get next year now after coming out in favour of the yes vote. No matter how much he backtracks now, he will have done irreversible damage to the support he can expect to get.

Also, SKY and BBC are saying that 97% of the electorate turned out to vote. Maybe we should have a referendum every election time, that way we could guarantee a decent turnout. Wonder what sort of turnout figure a referendum on leaving the EU would get?

Perhaps, I think the rest of the UK are the losers, and I think the people of Scotland have used up just about all the goodwill available from the rest of the UK.

If it is a No, which looks likely. They would do well to go quiet for a bit.

I agree with Pierre here, though I'm clearly biased being English...

Mr A has a point too though, although in this case Scotland are only 'winning' regardless of the outcome because our spineless politicians are trying to bribe unwilling family members to stay in the family.
