Replacement monitor?
My 10 year old Dell tower has stopped working. The repair shop tells me I need a replacement monitor but they only have a Lenono Thinkvision S22 at £120. I've seen others at £75 on the net.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Replacement monitor?
Your local shop sounds like it is confused. If your Dell tower (the computer) has stopped working, then how would a new monitor help?
I'm not a fan of Lenovo products. I'd go for a Benq monitor.

Re: Replacement monitor?
Well the monitor only flashes the on/off light, the tower still works but I can't see anything on the screen. I didn't explain that very well. Well I know they have to make a profit but they want £120 and the same thing is £75 online delivered. I'm using a Compaq MV520 from 1999 at the moment and it looks very strange. I just need a basic monitor, not for gaming etc., preferably from some company I've heard from - Dell/Samsung etc.

Re: Replacement monitor?
Lots of online places for a monitor, some even do free delivery on selected items. Given your location, Ebuyer may be the place to look.
Just make sure the monitor has what you need (speakers? ) and has the correct connector for your computer - VGA, DVI, D-Sub etc.

Re: Replacement monitor?
I've had good service from several Iiyama monitors over the years. Currently a prolite 28" 1080 compatable.

Re: Replacement monitor?
Well basically I need a monitor to replace the one that stopped working and am looking for opinions and recommendations for a budget one. I know the people at the local shop but their price is a little steep I think. Thank you to those who responded here. The shop never even attempted to repair the old one, is that normal these days?
I like the idea of a dual use one as my little TV is twenty years old.

1. Decide what size monitor you want, at a guess 22-24in.
2. Work out what connection it needs to have for your PC ie DVI(most likely), HDMI or VGA.
3. Decide how much you want to spend, you should be able to pick something up for just under £100 based on your needs.
4. Find something online to the above specs and then check reviews.
5. Would be better to have standalone speakers of course.
Should be pretty quick and easy to sort out.

Re: Replacement monitor?
I thought maybe a TV with VGA input would work but cannot find one with a 24" screen. I'd almost decided on a Dell SE2219H from John Lewis but will keep looking a little longer as Black Friday/Cyber Monday is coming up. Or HP 22w, 22" but £25 cheaper.

Re: Replacement monitor?
Argos, 24" TV with HDMI £139
https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9171693
Amazon VGA to HDMI converter/connector £15
https://www.amazon.co.uk/FOINNEX-VGA.../dp/B072KR7MJW
I've no idea if the above would be suitable for your needs, or the quality of the picture/audio . .
I'm throwing it in as a suggestion, and hoping others with better knowledge/experience of such things will be able to provide better answers.
Another thing to be aware of, is that the new TV will be 24" widescreen and therefore probably look smaller than the older 24" CRT type 4:3 TV/Monitor
edit Argos 24" Panasonic with VGA £119 https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7608546

Re: Replacement monitor?
Looks like a solution and LG is a good make. Is 1366 x 768 good enough on a 24" screen?

Re: Replacement monitor?
Whether the resolution is good enough depends rather on what you use the PC for. Mine gets a lot of CAD use so the 1920x1080 resolution really helps the eyes. Not all graphics cards will naturally give this as a Windows option so you need to check the specs. Mine being an Nvidia uses the Nvidia desktop utility to enable this mode.
