Keep It Country leaving Freeview when it changes name

Apparently Keep It Country announced during a broadcast that when they change name to Spotlight TV they will no longer be on Freeview due to cost.

So there will be an almost national space left on Freeview soon. Almost, as they have the slot that isn't in Wales as E4 uses it there due to S4C

Though given the BBC/S4C situation (with them helping fund it) these days and a small rule change with their SD multiplex they could move S4C to the space the BBC Scotland channel uses (the BBC has recently already configured their SD Mux in rest of the UK to work like in Scotland), then C4 could use the space they use in the rest of country for E4 and the KIC space could be national.

AIUI, it will be removed from Freeview when it changes name to Spotlight TV and reduces the amount of country music that it shows.

Yeah, it's going streaming instead (cheaper).

Re: Keep It Country leaving Freeview when it changes name

KIC’s CEO is quoting the £4 million Freeview wanted for them to stay in the slot as an unviable figure to pay out. Hence the snipe earlier about the BBC/ITV/C4 “cartel” he sees as milking money out of any channel joining Freeview.

Will be interesting to see if Total Country, which now has a Freeview licence, will pursue a vacated slot.

Re: Keep It Country leaving Freeview when it changes name

Spotlight TV has re-appeared on KICs old channel 87 slot for viewers in Manchester, where they have joined the Greater Manchester local mini-mux.
