Re: What have you fixed lately?

Small worktop oven/grill unit. Fan motor had jammed. Took the cover off and it seems that a small fibre washer on the motor shaft had disintegrated and jammed the rotor. I extracted the remains, lubricated the bearings and the motor now seems happy and quiet.

The washer controls the end float on the rotor but when it's running it seems to self-centre anyway.

Well after 4 months I took my dads car to get his spare changed, and boy was it a job putting it back under the car (Zafira).

15 years ago I built wooden staging in the greenhouse. The ends of the legs have rotted over time, so I just used a carjack to lift the frame up and fit housebricks under the feet after removing the rotten bits.

Our daughter had a go at hers. Unfortunately the potentiometers are sealed units, so the cleaning fluid cannot get in to do its job.

I may buy an ifixit kit and dismantle the controller to get better access to them but I'm in no rush, I should have sent it back while in warranty.

My launch day controller is iffy now too but still usable, I have bought another black controller, I'm wondering if I can get away being naughty and swapping it out saying it's got drift! Lol

It seems to be a pretty straight forward fix...

Thanks it's the best video I've seen, if I can't get lucky selling it to CEX I may give it ago although don't fancy the soldering, I'm very experienced with a soldering iron but not desoldered at home before and not done any at work in 14 years so I don't have the kit to make it as easy as they make it look.

Re: What have you fixed lately?

My sister's gas hob: Only one burner was working and somewhat lacklustre. Fortunately the jets were easy to access being directly under each burner. As I surmised they were all blocked up. Some work with fine copper wire and 4 out of the 5 now working. Unfortunately the smallest one has such a tiny hole in the jet I didn't have a wire fine enough to clean it. Will do so the next time I visit.

My salamander shower pump. It blew up the fuse 3 times in a row. Salamander's tech support diagnosis was "morto". They posted a replacement (it was under warranty)

Re: What have you fixed lately?

I've fixed 2 PS5 controllers that had stick drift. I am going to have a try at replacing a micro USB charging port on a 10.1 tablet later, that should be fun.

Did you take them apart using an ifixit kit and was a soldering iron and some kind of jig to hold the PCB necessary?

The reason I ask is my black controller is not usable it's so bad so I will have to take apart, I do have a video for that but it looks like a pain to do it without suitable kit and all I can do is a 30min temporary fix using electrical contact cleaner spray.

I tried to off load my white day one controller at CEX which had very slight drift but they noticed it!

Spiderman dualsense gets delivered in a few days but in my experience it'll eventually drift too.

Looks like the video I got I got from you.

Yeah, dismantled them using some pry tools a 1.5 cross (+) screwdriver and some tweezers. I didn't have to solder or use a jig, because they only needed a good clean with Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9%.

I followed that video guide, it was really helpful, just try and be delicate with the ribbon cables and wires, although some slight force was needed when trying to pry open the controller at the start.
