Urgent- Women owed billions in incorrect pension payments.

The Government has again made a cock up with benefit payments, resulting in (mostly) women being underpaid. This will mainly (but not excusively) affect widows, those over 80 and divorced women. The beneficeries of those that have died can claim the money on their behalf.

When pensions are calculated, they were supposed to take into account some of their former husbands National Insurance Contributions, but haven't been doing so. This rule goes back to after WWII when men went out to work and women usually stayed at home.

I don't blame the staff as there have been cuts to staffing levels & many experienced staff have left or retired early, being replaced by inexperienced staff who aren't familiar with the more complex side of benefits processing.

Not everybody will be notified and they are now starting to limit backdating to 12 months (backdating was previously everything that was underpaid- as much as £100,000), but this is to be legally challenged.

This link includes a calculator that indicates if people have been underpaid. Because of the complexity of calculating pension entitlements, the best thing to do is contact the DWP. on the Freephone number given. Don't be put off by the message saying to call back later due to Covid and insist that they put you through to the dedicated dept dealing with this.

The longer you leave it, the more money that you're entitled to will be lost.

Please share this with anybody you think will be affected or on social media etc.
