Re: TIVO Update = Constant Crashes/Restarts
Please someone answer me a question regarding Tivo.
I am trying to persuade my wife to get it, BUT l have checked the web site, and it clearly states that its Free, just £3.00 per month, and free activation.
My wife contacted CS today, and she was told -The box is only free if its a new customer, if you already have a normal box then its £49.95.
You can get the Internet and You tube on the box etc.
Can someone help solve this problem.
Is VM wrong again

It's great to hear feedback from happy customers on this thread also. Definitely gives a more balanced view of the situation.

Of course there will be a few bugs and glitches with the update but l think it has been wildly exaggerated to be worse then it actually is.

Yeah, I think that's almost always going to be the case with forums. People tend to post more once they have a problem rather than when things are running smoothly.
Mine has returned to its unwatchable state of continuos reboots unfortunately. Saturday can't come soon enough....

I just feel that the CS, should be more truthful and there web site should be more clarified on what exactly is Free and what isn't

Re: TIVO Update = Constant Crashes/Restarts
It clearly states on there web site, New or existing customers the Tivo box is Free, and activation is free, its that simple, But try telling CS that.

How much worse can you get than a software update rendering the box completely useless to the user?
Engineer came out to me this afternoon, checked the signal levels (which were fine, as expected), and swapped it out for a new box. It auto-updated itself to 15.2 and so far (about 5 hours) not a single reboot, so fingers crossed the new box behaves itself.
Decent service after reporting the incident on Tuesday evening, but I've obviously lost all of my recordings and have spent over 2 hours setting all of my season passes, wildcards etc up to get it back to how I want it.
Admittedly the issue has not affected the majority of users (those with issues will always should loudest), but for those that are affected "a few bugs and glitches" doesn't come close to covering it!!

You should be accessing the Existing Customers part of the website. It's very clear Arthur.

Our amazing 1TB box lets you store around 500 hours of standard TV or around 100 hours of HD TV. The 500GB box is pretty special, too, recording around 250 hours of standard TV or around 50 hours of HD TV.
Upgrade now and get free activation worth £49.95 with our 500GB (you'll just need to pay £49.95 for installation)

I think if anyone had that happen to them, then you'd be rightly upset. The box must have had an underlying fault which the upgrade triggered.
