BERKELEY — Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday ordered California's nearly 40 million residents to stay home, making it the first state to impose that strict mandate on all residents to counteract a looming surge of new infections.
The order takes effect immediately and remains in place "until further notice." Californians are not allowed to leave home except for essential purposes. They are allowed to purchase groceries, prescriptions and health care, as well as commute to jobs deemed essential.

Re: Coronavirus
Wife just back from Sainsbury's doing small shop for us and also for 2 families self-isolating (one poor lady has 4 ADHD kids all at home). Fruit/veg OK but no pasta, rice, sliced bread. Looking on line and rice is really short or being priced up so high - do we need anti gouging laws?
She now just down to Waitrose for our weekend supplies, we are trying to keep to normal just buy as need. Not risking Aldi.

Re: Coronavirus
Just had my weekly visit from a very frazzled Asda delivery man who has horror stories a-plenty from his base supermarket, where they’re queueing round the block from dawn, despite the ban on non-pensioners entering the shop for the first hour, and entire families (adults and kids) are attending the shop together so they can load 4 or 5 trolleys with stuff.
We as a nation have disgraced ourselves this week.

If you haven't been in a supermarket lately you would be horrified at what's going on,i haven't seen anything like it in my lifetime, but on the plus side you're completely safe if you have over 50 toilet rolls

The Sainsburys delivery man who came yesterday was pretty stressed because as soon as we opened the door he kept apoligising to us but we told him that it is not your fault and we understood the situation fully.
In situations like this you see who are the selfish *******s and those who care about their community and fellow humans.

Not for the first time I’m very glad I live a little way outside of what passes for “civilisation”. We haven’t done a full-scale family shop in a supermarket in years, just the occasional bits and pieces. The main shop always comes weekly on the Asda van.
Thank heavens for our local independent bakery and fruit and veg shop who will deliver.
our local bakery /butchers/ fruit and veg shop have all gone, this is a wake up call to support local shops.

We have just signed up with Creamline (covers Manchester and the North West) on the recommendation of a neighbour who has been using them for a couple of years. Well worth having a look what they deliver if you live in their area.
