To be fair this makes it sound more promising Sky Atlantic could arrive on Virgin at some stage.

This agreement is a further step in Sky’s strategy to maximise distribution of key channel brands and to monetise its content investment further across all TV platforms.

And reading between the lines even though l am not the cleverest on this forum l would say its pretty inevitable and even Dave l am sure would come to the same conclusion despite his permanent Sky Atlantic will never arrive on Virgin stance.

I know but we always seem to copy American ideas. Has there been any suggestion at all that this could happen in the UK? I hope not.

The new PL rights start from 2019 so it could be actually August 2019 rather than January?
I don't want to seem pessimistic but Sky and BT have only probably reached this agreement due to the football rights. Virgin have nothing to exchange bar the broadband access which they want to keep. I can only see this as a major downside for Virgin with packages going up as I am sure that the wholesale cost of BT Sport to Sky has been negotiated downwards in exchange for NOWTV access etc while Virgins will stay the same or rise.

I've said it before and i know many disagree but i'll say it again VM should never of sold of their channels for a start Living was great when vm owned it but now it's a shadow of it's former self, plus by having channels VM would of had that extra bargaining chip too.

I think this is both Sky and BT hedging their bets over the forthcoming Premier League rights, if either lose out they get to market the football as available on their service (BT being the loser as all the subscription money goes to Sky via Now TV).
If BT decide to sell their rather good online sports service direct to customers rather than renew their contract with VM or demand you be a BT customer to even be able to pay for it then VM could well be fubared when it comes to full sports content.

Cheers.
I wonder if this new arrangement between Sky & BT includes AMC?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)
Now Sky have withdrawn the Original and Sky Variety TV packs and replaced it with the entertainment pack it makes them cheaper than Virgin Media if your not interested in BT Sport
I've done a mock sign up with Sky and VM
Sky
Sky Q £25
Sky Entertainment
Sky HD
Sky Talk Pay As You Talk £0
Sky Line Rental £18.99
Sky Fibre Unlimited £11.01
Free Fibre Activation Fee
Without offers £20
Sky Q Multiscreen Pack £12
One off cost including Sky Q 2TB £114.95
Total monthly cost £67 Without offers £75.99
__________________________________________________
Virgin Media
VIVID 200 Optical Fibre
Full House TV
Talk Weekends
Virgin Phone line
Virgin TV V6 box
Virgin TV multiroom room
Activation Fee £20.00
Monthly cost £67.50 a month for 12 months then £82.50 a month
__________________________________________________
A lot of changes from Sky over the past week and for those not interested in BT Sport which is free for now with VM (some rumours it won't be once the current deal is up next summer) you can save yourself £78.12 a year at normal price
