Who should pay for German bombs being found in the UK?
Not too long ago, whilst refurbishing a railway station, an undetonated bomb from WWII was found.
Google shows that this is not an isolated incident:
Should we be asking Germany to pay for the costs of dealing with these? Was there some sort of agreement after the war that said that each country must deal with any after effects themselves? Would this be an insensitive time to raise this with regards to Brexit?

Well you couldn't just label them "Return to Sender" could you?
But I suppose they don't have import licenses, or could they be classed as fly-tipping or wanton littering?

Should we and our allies pay for clearing up all the American, British and Allied bombs throughout Europe. No...

IIRC we are all sharing where bombs were dropped and what type.
Then how to defuse them.

Germany suffers from un exploded British bombs so should we have to pay Germany to clear them. The process in place works why change it ?

Except Britain has declared war on Germany twice and them on us never. In fact new evidence has come to light recently that we would have gone to war with them in 1914 no matter what they did to appease us

I think it'd be better to stick to the current arrangement btw

Re: Who should pay for German bombs being found in the UK?
Is there any formal arrangement that says that each country must clean up any residue from wars themselves?
Who pays for it? Would Network Rail have to foot the bill, or would the Government compensate them?
If it's just tough luck and the owner of the land where the bomb is found has to pay, what if it happens on an individual householders garden?
If they can't or won't pay, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't just be left (hopefully)!

Was a bomb in the thames up near Westminster when I was there back in January. Causes a bit of a fuss for people like me not familiar for alternative travel routes. Though to be fair, someone was also killed on the tracks in Kings Cross around the same time!

Do you really want the UK to be responsible for the cost of this
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/histo...any-180957680/
And you don't pay for the bomb squad to come round either as far as I know, my neighbour had them out once for second world war ordnance and wasn't presented with a bill at the end of it

Re: Who should pay for German bombs being found in the UK?
We have been paying for this stuff around here for a very long time. Indeed I've lost count of the number of times travel has been impeded in Portsmouth Harbour in recent years as they have been dredging up wartime ordnance so that HMS Elizabeth could safely fit into the harbour. Then there was the time they had to clear HMS Deadelus airfield when it was decommissioned. That's right on my doorstep.Besides which France and Belgium farmers are still finding bits of ordnance from WW1. Whose been paying for that?
Perhaps we should take it as a lesson learned in what results when nations go to war when they can't just agree to disagree?
