The end of PAYG
I've just had a text from Virgin to say that my SIM will no longer work from 11th January 2022 as they will no longer offer PAYG.
I use the phone very rarely, so a contract would be a waste of money.

Re: The end of PAYG
Move to giffgaff. Or negotiate your package. They might throw in a sim for next to nothing. I got an 18 month 5GB unlimited calls and text for free last haggle. Hoping next haggle in August will let me change from VM to O2 and a volt package on the cheap

Recommend ASDA mobile if you want PAYG. Cheaper than chips .....
(It uses Vodafone network so you should get the same coverage as VM)

Re: The end of PAYG
Our daughter pointed me to 1p Mobile PAYG
https://www.1pmobile.com/index.taf?g...hoCTAUQAvD_BwE
But as usual there is a catch, £10 every 120 days to keep the SIM active.

Yes, ASDA looks like the way to go, I'll ask around and see what local coverage is like with Vodaphone.

Re: The end of PAYG
After sorting out my daughter's rolling contract, I asked about the PAYG credit refund. All I had to do was give them a card number, and it was refunded immediately.
"I see you have a credit of £8.45, and that you last topped-up in September 2019".

Re: The end of PAYG
4p a text, 4p a minute, 4p per Mb with ASDA. All I have to do is sent one text every 6 months to keep it going.
After swapping to the ASDA SIM I now get all bars for signal, a rarity with VM.
I checked signal levels when I was around Itshim's area, and it was solid all over the place.

Unfortunately, Bars mean nothing as there is no standard. 4 bars on one operator could be 1 bar on another.

This goes for phone models too. My current phone has 7 bars, my previous had 5. I've seen them with 3 and 4. Some user interfaces make it look like one triangle and difficult to make out how many notches/bars.

Re: The end of PAYG
You dont need a standard number as such.
All that matters is how many you have compared to the max.
So 4 bars out of 4 is good, as is 6 out of 6, or 7 out of 7.

Yeah. I should've said that. All proportional.
