Is it correct that VM will no longer lay cable over roofs?
Someone called out an engineer because of a fault. Because he has concrete floors and lives in a terraced house, they overlaid the cable over the roof about ten years ago and the engineer said that he'd have to send someone else out.
When the second engineer arrived, he said that he couldn't do anything as VM no longer lay cable over roofs.
Is this correct? If it is, him and his wife may have to leave VM because they don't want cables all along the skirting boards and going through doors etc.

Surely they can route the cables around the house and in through the wall at the appropriate place?

I think NTL had stopped slinging cable over roofs long before 2009, in some franchises at least. I’m not surprised they won’t do it, it’s dangerous work and makes even modest repairs expensive and difficult. Cable enters the side of the house where the duct is, and that’s all there is to it.

You arent supposed to go over a roof, you can go into loft and out the other side

I would have thought that would be a trifle difficult as it a terrace house!

That's what was done when he had satellite, but VM won't entertain the idea. As a last resort he's thinking of asking an engineer for some cable and doing it himself. The trouble with going over the roof is that the cable rubs against the roof and frays, so repairs are needed every few years.

Re: Is it correct that VM will no longer lay cable over roofs?
We had an engineer put cable in for TV a few months ago (I pointed out that my neighbour with an NTL/Nynex job had it the same way) - Which was over the (flat) roof.
They only have short ladders on the vans though, so I lent the engineer mine - Job done

Maybe it depends on the engineer that comes, or flat roofs (which tend to be less high) are exempt??
