Sky+ to add smart recommendations service with new EPG
Quote:
Sky will roll out a new recommendation service for its Sky+ customers following the launch of its new Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) this summer.
|
Quote:
Sky is also adding a perpetual season link service to its EPG, a feature that will remind users when their favourite shows have returned after mid-season breaks or for a new series.

I'd imagine it will start to roll out in small batches at first with the majority receiving it around April time but that's just guesswork. Its certainly cosmetically nicer and gives On Demand more prominence on the home screen.

They generally send updates out In small batches initially to allow them to monitor feedback , they gradually increase the number and then when there completely happy they send it out to the whole subscriber base and make it available for update on the DR stream.

Mutton dressed as lamb. That's another 2 TiVo features they're ripping off or catching up with, depending on the way you see it. Sky knows nothing about innovation.

And long may it continue! As long as it's adding value to my viewing experience, I'm not too bothered about where they get their inspiration from. Hopefully they'll steal the 3 tuner idea soon too.

That's if the On Demand works as my parents are fed up with it not connecting all the time.

Re: General Sky TV Discussion
I like some of the improvements coming soon, looks like it will make things easier to find and navigate round.

On Demand works perfectly fine its your parents BB that's the issue as you've told us before , they should switch to VM if its available or enquire about fibre optic through their BT line.

Strange then how they had a PVR long before cable TV had one and saw the merit in HD and pushed that. Now TV was great move; a move that VM couldn't do because they sold all their channels.
Tivo has many of it's features tied up in patents, so Sky are doing the right thing by trying to offer similar functionality but avoiding patent infringement. It may not be quite as good, but the fact that they are doing something is good.

I think both companies borrow ideas from each other. Would SKY have on demand and catch up TV if Virgin hadn't pushed it first? Maybe not. Would Virgin offer Virgin TV Anywhere if it wasn't for SKY Go? Maybe not. Would Virgin offer remote record if SKY hadn't pushed it first? Who knows..... and the list goes on and on.
As a consumer I'm glad there are 2 companies pushing each other to innovate. With Talk Talk and BT making noises on the scene I'm sure there's plenty more innovation and idea stealing ahead. Exciting times for consumers as it'll push providers to not only match but exceed what others offer in terms of content and services. I can't see the negative in that.
