Re: Changes to Virgin TV (2021)
ITV and Virgin Media have signed a new 5-year deal.
https://rxtvinfo.com/2021/vmo2-secur...d-iptv-service
Things that stood out to me in the article:
- full integration of ITV Hub
- programme start-over and cloud recording in the future
- VM's new IPTV service fully launching "early 2022"
---------- Post added at 09:32 ---------- Previous post was at 09:27 ----------
ITV Press Release regards it.

1. "A range of new features including programme start over and cloud recording will also be introduced for some Virgin TV customers in future."
2. "ITV will also be able to offer linear addressable advertising via IP delivery through the Planet V platform."
So:
1. Cloud recording is on its way for some channels.
2. Does this mean VM's IPTV service can tailor ads to its customers when they are watching linear channels?

That's the way I interpreted it. Isn't this what that that Ad Smart thing introduced a few years back does on existing boxes though? It was only for channels that opted in though, ITV decided to start its own version.

Thanks, I didn't pay much attention until now and assumed that was just for catch-up TV not linear TV. Interesting.

No

Are HD programmes available with Dolby 5.1 surround sound?
The ITV HD channels offer superb picture quality with sharp images, rich colours and amazing detail. However, we do not broadcast Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

Ever since Surround Sound TVs came out the sound mixes on shows have made hearing the TV a nightmare, things get made assuming you have the latest high end cinema equipment and it sounds awful on all other equipment. The mix is always poor, the balance is all wrong, and you can't hear the dialogue over the other sounds, or the music is 10x louder than the dialogue.
At least with stereo they know everyone has two speakers, the problem is that they may broadcast stereo, but they don't mix the sound to get the best out of it. Stereo isn't the problem, it's the way the makers have assembled the audio.
Proper 5.1 is great, don't get me wrong, most people don't have the right set-up.

Would that be the same button press that is holding up the launch of Sky Sports UHD

There have been several Sky UHD streams testing on Satellite for a while now.
Jimbo did an updated post (covering various things, not just UHD) on the Digital Spy forum Sky news thread this morning.
https://forums.digitalspy.com/discus...mment_99919730
Maybe it's Sky that's not yet providing, even for themselves, what VM signed up for?

This is Virgin media though so if they say "just got to push the button" or "coming soon" you can prob expect it 10 years later lol.
