Well! Some cosmetics and key positions aside, it certainly 'looks' like a Q9 or at least some weird derivative!
What does settings/system/device information/identity report as it's model number?
In any case, looking at the ebay auction photos it's running WM5 same as mine, so can you tell us your procedure in steps for trying to connect to a wireless network and we'll go from there.

Looks loke some nasty WM clone!

Anyway - try this: http://kb.iu.edu/data/atcn.html#initial

Is your router set for DHCP and is the Wi-Fi visible to all devices?

On mine, I go into comms manager by highlighting and selecting Vodafone on the home screen. Then settings, WLAN settings (make sure WiFi is on), then choose the first option to view wifi networks, select your SSID had fill out the settings in the wizard.

You get a solid beacon when its connected or a dotted one if its probing.

Unless his is on Vodafone, he won't have that short cut as it's a Vodafone customisation.

All he needs to go is go on the Wi-Fi setting and activate the WLAN / Wi-Fi and then it should pick up the access point....

It's a fairly simple process...

So, run us through what you have / should have, If you go to start>settings>connections, do you have a WLAN manager, if so, is it enabled ? If not, what do you have ?

Are you sure this is a real phone? Not one of those dodgy "made to look like" clone things?

LOL, now there's a thought, still, another way to go is a prog like this, hitch-hiker it's a beta freeware, you'll need to install .net cf2 as well. Never used this but does the same as my pay for prog. All you do is install, run the prog and it will attempt to connect to any unprotected / available wi-fi spot.

HTH

I would say that those were one and the same, you want a phone from hong kong

Re: Connecting A Windows Mobile 5 up to a wireless network?

Hey Callumpy - did you get a Nintendo Wii remote for Christmas as well?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-aTfLayXwQ

LOL!

PS - Is the "phone" really running WM5?

Edit - just checked eBay page - ok - looks real enough - so what options do you have under Start / Settings?

Edit 2 - Here's the official Microsoft manual - may not be exact but should be a start: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...nnections.mspx

Maybe they never put a wi-fi chip in to save on costs
Wander if its a Genuine WM5 device or someone cracked the OS and loaded it on there.
