Thinking of leaving VM
I have just spend over 15 mins thinking of leaving agent and all he would offer in no price increase. So it looks as I will look for anther internet provider.
At the moment I have land line,
100 meg broadband
Basic TV
I do not need the Tv or 100 meg 50 meg would sufficient.

So how much was the price if you downgraded to 50Mb?

Re: Thing of leaveing
Then you were just after something for nothing. If your concern were legitimate you would have accepted no price increase.

Re: Thing of leaveing
They’re more likely (but by no means certain to) offer you something if you actually give your notice. Might need to wait a few days on a call back.

"Thinking of leaving" is the choice you select to speak to retentions as you well know. It's not unreasonable to ask for a price reduction if you think the service is over priced. I do it every year after the inevitable price hikes, you don't have to threaten to leave to get a deal but you do have to ring THINKING OF LEAVING.
He was asking for advice not your customary sniping. Try to get out of the right side of the bed for once.

Re: Thing of leaveing
Pip could have been slightly nicer about it but the prevalence of money saving websites (and others) encouraging people with no intention of leaving to say they are “thinking of leaving” has caused many companies to up their retention game.
To not enter the 30/31 day notice period (in which you can still change your mind) doesn’t seem very committed and more chancing your arm. Note I’m not saying that of the OP, but if you’re Virgin/Sky/BT getting hundreds of calls a day you have to start risk assessing somewhere.

I'm assuming Ken has received his price increase letter so he's entitled to play the "game" . If not then he's got no chance of getting anything
You have to pretend to be leaving when ringing because it's the only option on offer to speak to retentions. I don't understand your comment about him not seeming committed by not entering the month notice period ??
Out of interest do you just pay the annual / 6 monthly price increases with a cheery smile.

I give them my notice and sit by the phone. Same to Sky (when a subscriber) and multiple mobile operators over the years. If you end your first call with them believing you are going to go you will get better offers.
If you end your first call saying you don’t want to give your notice period and will have a think you won’t get as good offers.

Maybe Ken isn't a hard bargainer.
You haven't said what you do when they hike the prices.
