l thought the BBC version was rather disappointing personally as they do have a track record of ruining some of these series.

It is, and afaik, was renewed ages ago, I've had Season 2 on my list for quite a few weeks.

You sure? (not that I'll be watching it).

Set in a dystopian reality in which an unstoppable force turns London’s streets into a deserted wilderness, it’s perhaps fitting for our times that War Of The Worlds will be the first UK television drama serie s to get cameras rolling in the pandemic era. Hollywood blockbusters Jurassic World and Mission Impossible are already shooting in Britain, but TV has been a little more cautious up until this point.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations
I looked at both of the series before they came out. The first one was being made by the BBC which was an instant no no fore me. The second one looked and sounded promising until I noticed it was a Belgian production. I am pretty sure I watched the trailer for it and it was all in french. I might have just been dreaming though:

Re: Renewals & Cancellations
I've watched all 8 episodes of Season 1, a while ago now.
Its not all in French, its about 80% English, and you can get subtitles for the french bits.
(Either separate, or hard coded into the video, depending on your source).
