South Staffs Water Cyber Attack are you impacted?
Not happy!
I've just received a letter from Cambridge Water that their parent company was hacked.
They have confirmed my name and address bank account number and sort code are now on the Dark Web!!!
Anyone else received a similar letter today and what do you plan to do about it, possibly change bank account?

I will have to check, this will impact millions of people as Cambridge water isn't even close to staffs so their must be others on here in that area with same issue.
I think if someone tries to setup a direct debit I would get a text message though, I just hope my mobile number isn't part of the hack as I have no idea if Cambridge water have that.

Anybody who you given an old-fashioned cheque would also have all that info.

While its not great, its not quite as bad as it may sound.
Just having someones bank account number isnt really much help to anyone.
About the only thing they can do is pay money into your account.
As noted, if you ever gave anyone a cheque, they have your account details.
Plus any company or person you pay by bank transfer has given you their details, and they dont worry about it.

My niece had something on gumtree for sale the other day, someone offered to buy it and then tried to take 6k out of her account with the details she gave them, the bank stopped it fortunately, when that failed they doubled down and went for 34k. Not sure it's the same though as those details were given and not stolen from a third party and it shows the banks are well on the ball, as they should be really

Not sure how that fraud attempt could ever have worked. If it could, fraud would be absolutely rampant.
The nearest thing would be if they knew the account holder well enough to get past the security questions, when they tried to transfer money over the phone.
