Galaxy S3 jelly bean update via Kies?

Hi can anyone tell me how to update my S3 via Kies to jelly bean please.
In my phone settings the software says I'm up to date but I'm reading on here there is a Jelly Bean update available.

Thanks.

install Kies plug phone in. update when prompted

If you are rooted and have a modified kernel in any way beware and read up on xda first

to interface with the phone via cable you only need it on the PC . I do not do it via wifi as I do not trust it. So yes you need it installed on the pc

Re: Galaxy S3 jelly bean update via Kies?

have you customised the software in any way?

to go down the custom route read and digest this whole page http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1703488 and if you feel upto it download and install the toolkit and modify your device ( you have to do this right)

You can then choose a rom from the hundreds there some of which are 4.2.2 so you will be ahead of stock

If not somewhere on XDA are links and instructions to official roms that you can install using odin

disclaimer I accept no responsibility for your device if you do not follow instructions device could be bricked( I have messed with phones for years and never yet bricked one however)

Re: Galaxy S3 jelly bean update via Kies?

Hi thanks for that but I don't want to do anything unofficial as the phones are on 2yr contracts and have only had them 6mths. ICS is causing all sorts of problems with the 4 phones and was hoping after reading the forum that JB update would solve the issues just need to find how to get it.

Re: Galaxy S3 jelly bean update via Kies?

Kies should update the phone to the latest version, even if you have rooted it at some point. You should try running kies again with the phone connected.

Not got my S3 with me but im sure in the settings menu, somewhere at the bottom of the list is an option that when you go into it allows you to check for software update. That update is an OTA (over the air) and can be fussy about offering it and keep in mind the update can be big if you have a limit on the amount of data your mobile plan has.

Personally I think the first option is the best for you to try again.

KIES won't do it if you've manually put a different region's firmware on

Incorrect

Correct

Kies tends to refuse to touch any device with even the slightest modification - changing region, language, even carrier code can cause it to bork. Rooting almost always does.

You are the ones that are incorrect. I have stock firmware with rooted kernel and Kies offers to update mine

Re: Galaxy S3 jelly bean update via Kies?

Yup, other modifications may stop kies from updating but simply rooting does not seem to. If the root method changes the recovery partition to say CWM then that may possibly stop kies updating but I can't be sure if that does or does not. Kies will upgrade a rooted phone but you lose the root in the proces.
