Changing Default Hard Disk Icon
I have an External Seagate Hard Disk that i wish to change the default icon to.
I have created the new Icon and placed it on the drive and have then gone onto the drive and changed the autorun.inf file to the new icon name and this didn't work.
i also tried adding a registry entry to change the icon and this didn't work.
Anyone know anything else i can try?
Thanks

Re: Changing Default Hard Disk Icon
You could always do search(eg Google) for something like, "windows change drive icon" and see what results appear.
This seems to be an important step. Changing the autorun.inf and "ejecting" and reconnecting worked for me just now using a Seagate external HDD.

Restart the computer to apply. If this is for a removable drive, then you could just disconnect and reconnect the drive to apply instead.

Re: Changing Default Hard Disk Icon
I wanted to do this but after weeks of going round and round in circles, I gave up.
I'm on Windows 8.1.

Changing the autorun.inf worked for me, using a Seagate external HDD. I didn't need to reboot. I just "ejected" the removable drive(to avoid possibly corrupting the contents), disconnected the power to the HDD and plugged it back in.
I removed all the surplus lines from the autorun.inf, leaving "[autorun]" and "icon=icon.ico".
Which icon are you trying to change? The one that appears in "This PC" or a shortcut on the desktop.

Re: Changing Default Hard Disk Icon
Seems like an awful lot of effort, why do you want to change it ?
