Now there are questions that I have set (involving lingerie for example) that only I would know that I only ever set - if they ask that they either have hacked into the central system of the company that I either set it with, or they are who they claim to be.

If they preface it with "the reason we need to talk to you" and I know that to be legitimate and they also say "but first we need to verify security" and I can tell that it is a legitimate number they are calling for it is entirely likely that it is a legitimate call and not a scam. But those variables will be down to you to figure out at the time. If you can think on your feet, you should be fine.
It's different if you are the one making the call, but this information should never be given to anyone who cold calls you.

Re: Dixons Carphone data breach

Cold call is totally different, I am saying for verified / expected calls based on existing accounts / customer service.

It is based on incoming as well as when you call them though.

Over the last couple days, hubby has been dealing with open reach yet as he has to go through Sky and they have had to call him and when they need to verify that it is him, they do ask security but they do know that it is him...

Re: Dixons Carphone data breach

Dixons Carphone has said a huge data breach that took place last year involved 10 million customers, up from its original estimate of 1.2 million.

The hackers also got access to records of 5.9 million payments cards, but nearly all of those were protected by the chip and pin system.

Re: Dixons Carphone data breach

See that is a huge distinction between the original disclosure and the total verified number.

Their shareholders will not be happy if it effects their value but I would think something like this would lead to a huge loss for the company.

Almost a 6th of the entire country was effected by the looks of it.
