Pokemon Pearl/Diamond for DS

Am contenplating reliving my youth and purchasing a new up to date pokemon game for the ds! Jus wondered if anybdy else had played it and if it was the same gameplay as the original red and blue versions on the original gameboy? Have tried the mystery dungeons and found it annoying lol! Any help?

Son enjoys Diamond but you have to be sure to save properly and shut down the game before turning off the DS or you end up having to start all over again.
