E-billing - what's my area reference!
I've just been emailed by VM asking me to join the e-billing system.
It asks for your 'area reference' number with a drop down giving numbers 01 to 31.
It says to take a look at your bill to get this but I've just recently had a clear out so don't have any!
I'm in Nottingham so what's my area reference and why can't they get this from the account number? Seems an odd question to me...

The area reference is the database you are on. The reason they cant get it from the account number is some areas share account numbers.
It can also be a security check to make sure you are who you say you are
so 11223344 maybe an account in nottingham and liverpool for instance
Nottingham is reference 30 by the way

Re: E-billing - what's my area reference!
There is a list of the area references but wouldn't be of any use, as it doesn't say the towns, you still couldn't work it out
It is on every phone/tv bill Virgin send you and 90% of broadband bills.
From May will be on ALL bills

I'm in Middlesbrough and my area reference is 30 too, I take it the area references cover a massive geographical area then?

It is not so much that as they reference the billing databases
For instance one area reference covers Southampton, Portsmouth, bits of London and other places too, so unless you know which database you come under, it is useless

I, for instance, live in the West London Riding of Yorkshire (14). Some of them are geographical, some are an accident of franchise and former cable company boundaries.
