Re: Hillsborough - 20th anniversary
To be perfectly honest l could not care two hoots about Lady Thatcher , Kelvin Mackenzie or The Sun as the people who should be brought to book are the ones who made these dreadful decisions on that terrible day.

That's the verdict the families wanted, and that's what they've got.
You continuing to bang on about Margaret Thatcher is in extremely poor taste at this time.

I mentioned her once.

The families of those who died have called on the chief constable of South Yorkshire police, David Crompton, and the head of the county’s ambulance service to resign

Why ?
Pretty sure they were not in charge 27 years ago.

Re: Hillsborough - 20th anniversary
I do think that it would help if someone in authority (be it FA, Police or Government) and someone high up in The Sun or News Corp actually apologised to the people of Liverpool. Yes, it was decades ago. Yes, no one can change what happened, but it might help if someone said "Sorry, we ****** up".

Re: Hillsborough - 20th anniversary
The families have their victory.
if there are people alive today whose actions directly caused the deaths then they should be prosecuted other than that it should now be put to rest.

Very difficult to prosecute after all this time. All those responsible for covering up the truth, need to have justice served too. As that will cause too much embarrassment and involve too many in high places, it won't happen. Today, welcome though it is, is probably the best the families are going to get.

Can't speak for the ambulance service, but the police instructed their lawyers to stick to the original story throughout the inquest. It's easy to see why the families would want to see the back of the chief cons table under the circumstances.

Which is exactly why David Crompton has been suspended
Quote:
The chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, has been suspended over his response to Hillsborough.
Dr Alan Billings, the area's police and crime commissioner, said he had no other choice given the "erosion of public trust and confidence".

On the plus side we have finally found a use for the Police Commissioner

The Times realised they got it wrong today...

We've been criticised today for not having Hillsborough on our first edition front page. This is our response:

Re: Hillsborough - 20th anniversary
I was living and working in Belgium when that happened. And we were watching the match with locals on the TV.
To say that English people were glared at whenever they went out for months is not an understatement.
My Scottish colleague and myself were spared all that, but we still felt the tension.

Hillsborough jury fails to reach verdict in Duckenfield case.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...ckenfield-case
Quote:
The jury hearing the prosecution for gross negligence manslaughter of the former South Yorkshire police chief superintendent David Duckenfield has failed to reach a verdict, almost 30 years after he commanded the 1989 FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, at which 96 people died.

It was a jury decision, not a judge’s.

I appreciate that, but the whole thing has been a shambles from start to finish. It’s fundamentally a state cover up (in my opinion).
