I thought I just stated that I was not right about the films going to Netflix, but that the new approach of 'direct to consumer' meant that alternative streaming services could carry these films. Why do you have to bitch about everything? Anything anyone says is based on speculation to some degree. Nobody who forecasts what may happen in the future can get everything right because unforeseen things happen. On this subject, I have got the general drift right. It is now widely acknowledged that content is shifting to streaming services. The ramifications of that are obvious to most of us who are not burying their heads in the sand with their fingers in their ears.

No they won’t. They need a viable business model, not just “will” if they are going to risk £4bn+ on an investment. To do so “because they can” without a plan on how to recoup the investment would leave executives/directors liable to dismissal at best and at worst criminal proceedings.

Of course they would need a business plan! Don't be so pedantic!

Those posting on here who don't like to think that the Prsmiership rights will be taken over by a global streaming service keep talking about it being too expensive. My point was that if Sky can afford it, so can Amazon, which has a far deeper purse.

I have also made the point that recouping that investment is not the straight forward calculation you make on the back of a fag packet. There are various ways to make such investment worthwhile.

Yet no bids were forthcoming last time out in the first round.

If you check back on my posts, Den, you will see that I posted that the streaming services would be likely to start their serious bidding either in the last round or in the 2022 round. Hardly an eternity.

I have already explained that the economics of it all are not as simplistic as you think. Anyway, let's wait and see. No point in arguing the toss as it can't be proved one way or the other until the time comes.

The slate screen for the hidden BT 4K channel is now showing in the screengrab on DigitalBitRate. It confirms that
Quote:
Both all-English finals, broadcast on BT Sport, will be available to watch in 4K UHD to all Virgin Media customers with a V6 and compatible 4K compatible TV, here on Channel 532.
532 isn't showing on the EPG yet. Non-4K customers will just have to may do with HD on Channel 100.

They have a business model and subscriber base in place that’s taken 30 years. The ability to achieve the same in the space of a three year rights cycle for any new entrant is questionable at best.

How long do you think it would take for Sky Sport subscribers to cancel their subscription and start a new one with a streaming service such as Amazon? The subscriber base is already there to be exploited.
