Agreed. I don't know why they couldn't just name it 'Home & Garden'.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)
It's common for TV channels to use abbreviated names:
BBC
ITV
MTV
VH1
ABC
CBS
NBC
TNT
TCM
TBS
How is HGTV is any different?

So?
How is a four letter abbreviated name any worse than a three letter one. Why on earth anyone would care about something so trivial is beyond me!

I was merely explaining the point made by the poster of this question. It doesn't bother me one iota. However, you've got to admit that 'HGTV' is a bit of a mouthful and not as easily remembered as, say, 'H&G'.

HGTV is a channel in the USA owned by Discovery networks, it stands for Home & Garden Television.

I know it does. The point was why don't they just call it that. Far less clumsy and more memorable.

Home & Garden doesn't, though. The TV bit is superfluous, surely.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)
It seems the channel is called HGTV - not Home & Garden TV.
I know on Sky the EPG entry was meant to reflect the licence holders name - so would be HGTV.
