Wireless HDD for wired desktop ?

Hi folks,
Some months ago I asked around to see if I could 'connect' a wireless hdd to my ACER desktop.
Apparently it is possible, but it seemed that I needed several items to set it up. One of these items was a Wireless Router/hub. I now have a BT Home Hub-2, so am now thinking of the remote/wireless hdd again.

I 'think' I now only need a wireless caddy & the hdd its-self ? Is that right ?
If not, what else do I require ?

many thanks for reading this.

Re: Wireless HDD for wired desktop ?

cheers for that.

There seems to be a couple of items out there.
I think one system is called NAS - which seems to be a ready built system (some of 'em are also a bit pricey)

The other is (or was) a WiFi caddy into which you put a normal hdd.

At the time, I needed to get my wired set-up to send/receive wirelessly. As I said, the couple of people that tried to help, said that i need a wireless router/hub, which I now have, connected to my ethernet socket.

I am assuming that this sends / receives the data - wirelessly - to said remote hdd/caddy ?!

I need to be sure b4 I spend my money.

thanks again

Re: Wireless HDD for wired desktop ?

Why does it particularly need to be wireless?

Re: Wireless HDD for wired desktop ?

you can buy NAS caddys for 30 to 40 quid this would be your best option if you have a router already . If the router is wireless the storage will be wireless also. If you buy a ready to use unit the Buffalo linkstations are good
