Maybe, but there are now factors involved that they can't control:

They only have 3 packages rather than 4
They have to share first choice games where they had them all before.

But the problem is sports rights have shot up in price and it will be us the customers who will have to face the brunt of these extravagant auctions in yearly ongoing price rises.

Sky actually won 116 games which is the maximum one broadcaster can hold , BT won 38 games.

Correction to my figures, Sky have 5 packages rather than 6 - there are 7 in total.

BT Sports will show 38 games where ESPN showed 23, mostly Saturday 12.45pm

"The transaction is expected to complete on July 31, 2013 after which BT will continue to operate at least one ESPN-branded channel which is expected to form part of the BT Sport TV package that will be launched by BT this summer."

I'm guessing ESPN America will be in their Sports pack.

Imagine how people who only enjoy cricket and rugby feel. Football has made watching minority sports unfairly expensive.

It's those who are in charge of cricket and rubgy TV rights who choose to sell their TV rights to the likes of SKY, BT and Premier Sports. They will fully understand that the sport is being put behind an expensive pay wall. Clearly those in charge of cricket and rugby value TV money ahead of TV viewers.

They could always break away and start their own dedicated channel like Boxnation did for boxing.

Agreed, fragmentation of sports rights is not proving advantageous to the consumer.

BT have a time for Premier League which simply doesn't suit me so will stick with Sky cos of that and the extra cost. BT having some first pick games doesn't impress me as they cost extra and ESPN didn't.

NRL confirmed to Premier Sports for the next 5 years, including play-offs, Grand Final and State of Origin.

You will have to wait a few months before VM confirm that it will come on their network but that applies to all providers as talks are ongoing between BT Sports and other providers currently.

It would be immensely stupid of BT not to have their sport available on VM via some means.
