Netflix already stands out from the crowd - this is a matter of other streamers trying to become even half as good.

Netflix has far more originals than any other streamer.

Netflix also display shows they acquire and premiere as 'A Netflix Original Series' misleading imo.

Re: Streaming services news, offers and general chit chat

The current climate may hit the streamers harder than linear TV.

My reason for thinking this, a lot of sky/virgin customers will be locked into contracts of up to 18 months - exiting these can be costly.

Streamers generally are on a rolling monthly contract so when you need to save money they will be the first to go.

I don’t disagree but it’s reaching maturity and saturation in some regions which is reflected in its share performance , its most recent price increase and loss of third party content won’t help the situation either.

Given that Netflix was so cheap, is that surprising?

As they say, you pays your price and you takes your choice!

You don't get something for nothing in this life, I'm afraid.

Subscribe to a cheaper streamer and you'll soon find out why it's cheaper. Just like when you compare Marks and Spencer with Aldi.

Tbf M+S ain't all that anymore Aldi has a lot of quality products you should try it,
as for Netflix they are on thin ice regarding price rises with cost of living rising faster than a hot air ballon Netflix may find it has risen prices once too many times.

Not just 18 month contracts - a supplier of multiple services.

I'm happy to chop and change to get value, but parents at their home are on an Ultimate Volt-ish package for about £110.

Phone line with unlimited calls is a must (yes, I know), Sky Sports is a must, FTTP not available.

So what's the options? £20 for phone/fttc, £33 for Sky Sports (Now), £16 for an unlimited SIM only package. So you're already at £70 for an extremely reduced service, with no recording convenience.

Given they have no viable business model at current prices, no, I'm not surprised in the slightest.

Re: Streaming services news, offers and general chit chat

Apparently streaming services are being dropped in huge numbers (1.2 million) over the last 9 months.

I suspect some of this is down to people returning to work (just as a lot of the increase was down to lockdown/furlough), but also people cutting costs.

Over 47% of regular payments dropped in that time were for streaming services.

Well, it can’t continue expanding indefinitely. Netflix is getting to the point where it will need to reduce its output of originals and start concentrating on paying off its debts.

It can turn things around by charging more, offering a premium tier with exclusive screenings, pay per view and a scaled down AVOD service for those who don’t want to pay a subscription.

There are multiple other ways it could increase income if it wants to. Netflix won’t be going anywhere in my lifetime. It is by far the most popular streamer and as long as it has more originals than their competitors and keeps up the quality, it looks pretty safe to me.

They already offer a Premium tier it’s £15.99 offers 4 simultaneous streams and 4K HDR unless your suggesting a Premium Premium tier.

Yes, that’s what I have, but I meant a premium tier content-wise.
