Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Have changed the thread title as the thread now covers a lot more than the 50th and series 7&8.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
New trailer for the Christmas special.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01n75m9
Looks great. Intrigued by the Dalek speaking a very interesting phrase. Had heard some rumors about that.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
I usually love most if not all episodes but that felt crap until the last 15 minutes or so. I guess I just expected more after the 50th

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Really enjoyed that. I loved the nod towards 1980s style regeneration with the Doctor hallucinating old companions.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Yup, I really liked that one.
I think that the Christmas specials can be quite hit and miss... that was one of the good ones, IMO.
Dealt with the regeneration issue in the expected way, tied up the Silence and their connection to the arcs in previous Matt Smith series (the crack and the stuff with River).

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Hmmm.
Well I guess it dealt with the regeneration (pretty much as expected) but tbh, I did not rate that as good as the 50th special last month.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Well it explained the sequence of regenerations, but it didn't explain why the doctor was miraculously given another regen by the time lords, or how, or how many more he has or anything.
It was another typical Moffat/RTD "it all just works out in the end" get out.

Because Clara told them he needed their help, I guess.

He said that he got a whole new cycle of regenerations.

Did he? I must of missed that bit, but I had consumed rather a lot of wine.

Re: Doctor Who General Discussion
Yeah I'm a bit confused with the whole 'reset' thing, was it even mentioned? Was there a clear reason given?
---------- Post added at 11:11 ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 ----------
edit: I just watched that bit back on iPlayer and if I've got this right, when Clara went to the 'rip' and told the Time Lords to help him, they reset his regenerations to allow him to cheat Matt's "death by old age" and destroy the Daleks.
