You could try your friend with one of these to start with

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Goodmans-Fre.../dp/B0044R8FJS

Not talki subs but it reads out the menus and epg.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Thanks, I'll look into that.

The One Show compared streaming services in their first feature last night.

They mentioned some sort of stick that could be plugged into the back of the television that effectively makes it into a Smart TV.

Are these similar to the Roku sticks available abroard?

Was that the Roku streaming stick mate? That's just come out or you have the Google chromecast, both are about £30.

Thanks for the info., I didn't know that Roku was now available in this country.

Where do you put the stick? The One Show just said "stick it into the back of the TV"!) also, do these devices have seperate remotes to control them?

They just plug into a hdmi slot on the tv mate.
I think with the sticks you download a app to your phone and use that as a remote, however the Roku boxes have a remote, atm they are on offer in pc world/currys roku 2 is £59.99 whilst the high end version the roku 3 is £79.99.
The stick is £49.99 but the roku 1 is also £49.99

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

The Roku stick comes with a remote and also works with 3rd party remotes like Logitech Harmony ones. Chromecase i believe only works with phone and tablet apps, doesn't work with remotes at all.

Thinking of picking up a Roku stick myself. We use a HTPC + XBMC for local files these days so the WDTV on the shelf is only used for Netflix, iPlayer etc. Netflix on it is a bit clunky and it'll be one less device cluttering the place up.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

From Digital Spy today:

HBO has announced that the series - which concluded its latest season on Monday (June 16) in the UK - can be owned in full via Amazon Instant Video, blinkbox, Google Play, Wuaki.tv and Xbox Video from today (Tuesday, June 17)

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s15...#ixzz34v5sZJSt

Even more reason why we need Amazon Instant as an app on Tivo!

You are better off buying your own copy.

Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Atm on Wuaki you can get any game of thrones season plus a chromecast for £33.99 https://chromeshop.wuaki.tv/uk/check..._campaign=acq3

Also it looks like the Wuaki app is certainly on the way there is now a Wuaki app on the xbox 360, no doubt more devices will follow soon.

Really? That is OTT! Can you view all the GOT series from the beginning on the Now TV box via on demand? That would certainly be a cheaper option.

Or if anyone is after a Chromecast they can click the link i posted and technically get the a G.O.T season for £3.99.
Although if you're after all the seasons it is still quite expensive at £23.99 for each season.

What's this about Game Of Thrones being taken off Now TV boxes (you touched upon this in the 'Coming soon' thread)?

I think he was refering to the issues people were having watching GOT live via nowtv or skygo.
